Sartre Centenary Conference 2005
A special two-day conference of the UK Society for Sartrean Studies (UKSSS) was held at the Institut Français, 17 Queensberry Place, South Kensington, London on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th March 2005, to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Jean-Paul Sartre.

Sartre Centenary: Special Double Issue of Sartre Studies International
There was a special double issue of Sartre Studies International, which was also published as a book in 2005. Members of the UK Society for Sartre Studies and of the North American Sartre Society were invited to contribute to this special volume which was launched at the Spring 2005 meeting of the North American Sartre Society at the University of San Francisco. The deadline for contributions was 31st October 2004. Members could choose to write on any theme. The volume also included a translation of an unpublished Sartre manuscript.

France
In France the centenary of Sartre’s birth has been officially announced as part of the National Clebrations for 2005. There were also  commemorations for Raymond Aron, Paul Nizan, Tocqueville (born in 1805) and Jules Verne (who died in 1905).
